If you enjoy spending time around birds then you may want to build a birdhouse. Building a birdhouse is a great way to become a companion of birds. Birdhouses add attractiveness to any landscape. Crafting, designing and building birdhouses is a in-expensive hobby.

You need to construct a birdhouse that is easy to clean. It should be sturdy, cool, and rainproof as well. Remember, this is your birdhouse, so use your imagination; you will have something unique and all your own when your project is completed..

It is important not to use metal to build your birdhouse, not even nails; use non-toxic outdoor wood glue. Metal can become very hot when the sun is beating down on it, plus it can have very sharp edges. Wood is the best material to build a birdhouse. To keep water out of the entrance of the birdhouse you need the roof to pitch enough to shed water.

Add a couple small holes near the top of the birdhouse for ventilation on hot days. The bottom of the birdhouse should be constructed with screws, so it will be easy to take apart when you clean it.

The most charming of the beautiful birds is the bird of paradise. There are several species quite unlike one another in the disposition of their charms, yet all eminent for the combined grace and richness of their plumage. The emerald bird of paradise is thus described:

The general color of the upper part of the body is rich chocolate brown, the whole of the front being covered with velvet-like feathers of the deepest green, at one moment sinking into black, and at another flashing forth with glittering emerald. The upper part of the throat is bright golden green, and the upper part of the neck a delicate yellow. The most wonderful part of this bird’s plumage is the mass of loose floating plumes that rises from the flanks, and extends in a most graceful manner far beyond the tail. Even in the absolute quiet of a stuffed skin under a glass case, these plumes are full of an astonishing beauty, their translucent golden white vanelets producing a most superb effect as they cross and recross each other, forming every imaginable shade of white, gold, and orange, and then deepening towards their extremities into a soft, purplish red. There is a magnificently arranged specimen of this bird in the British Museum, placed in a separate case, and worthy of a separate journey merely for that one object.

But when the bird is living and healthy, no pen can describe the varied and changeful beauties that develop themselves at every moment; for the creature seems to comprehend within its own single form the united beauties of all other members of the feathered tribe.

Birds are very interesting pets, easy to care for, they take up very little room, and are inexpensive to the pocketbook.

Most people don’t know that Pet birds make wonderful companions, and with proper training, can show as much affection for their owners as cats or dogs. Another good point of owning a pet bird is that they take care of most of their grooming needs on their own by preening their feathers on a daily basis, and because birds are very intelligence they are far less demanding to train than other animals. Also unknown to most folks, birds are not considered pets by most landlords who rent apartments.

Even the most exotic pet birds, like parrots and macaws, are relatively inexpensive to maintain. High-quality pellet feed generally costs no more than a few dollars that delivers all the nutrients your pet birds need to maintain good health. Your child can even socialize with their pet bird during meals by sharing fruits and vegetables with them.

Finches and Canaries are popular types of small pet birds. With most varieties measuring around 5 inches or less, Canaries and Finches require less space than most other bird species. Finches and Canaries are known as softbills or waxbills, parrots, are hookbills. A Finch or Canary can live for up to 10 years.

Lovebirds are one of the smallest known parrot species. These little birds are beautiful and should not be overlooked in favor of larger parrots, as the larger parrots can be more demanding. Lovebirds are around 6 inches long. Lovebird owners will tell you that these birds are just as intelligent and have the same type of personality as the largest of macaws. These birds are quiet, and make them ideal companions for those who live in apartments or condominiums. The Lovebird has a life expectancy of up to 20 years.
